Mechanical Engineer Grade/Salary: P04, GBP 38,229 - GBP 40,911 Contract: Permanent Reference: P08691H
You will work within a team of engineers providing professional and comprehensive mechanical engineering services to ensure the delivery of mechanical repairs, improvement works and refurbishment projects by contractors. You will provide technical advice, design, feasibility and maintenance support on all mechanical engineering matters. You will be responsible for project managing revenue and capital schemes to ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions, professional codes of practice and regulations.
You must have a minimum of NVQ level 1+2 in mechanical installation with a BTEC Higher Certificate and Diploma in mechanical engineering / building services or HNC / HND.
You will have significant experience of undertaking technical inspections and managing mechanical and electrical works/contracts within a social housing environment and a detailed knowledge of mechanical installation, maintenance and refurbishment works.
You must be able to prepare risk assessments and possess significant experience and understanding of health and safety legislation and CDM regulations and their application in managing mechanical works. You must also demonstrate knowledge of procurement and tendering requirements in a local authority and have experience of writing specifications for planned mechanical maintenance projects.
You will have knowledge of the Council's statutory requirements to consult with leaseholders about works to be carried out.
You will possess experience of approving costs from contractors, managing revenue and capital budgets and monitoring contractor performance.
You must possess good communication skills verbally and in writing with the ability to compile reports and letters in a concise and easy to understand language. Ability to explain technical issues to non-technical person in a simplistic manner is essential.
You will be able to use IT packages, repair databases, and have the ability to work outside normal hours where necessary to deal with emergencies.
